The Caribbean & African Health Network will be honouring individuals and organisations for their contributions to the health and wellbeing of the Black Caribbean and African Communities across the United Kingdom.  Nominations will be accepted for those who through personal or professional efforts have made a difference to Black Caribbean and African people.

  • Nominations open on Monday 19th August and close on 20th September 2024.
  • Each nominated individual or group must submit a 30 second clear background landscape video about them or their group by the 4th of October 2024. Further details will be sent once shortlisted nomination has been accepted.
  • Each shortlisted individual or group will be recognised in the nominated category on the night of the GALA 12th October 2024.
  • There will be nine categories and selection will be undertaken by an independent panel of judges using a set criterion.
  • Each shortlisted individual or group will receive a 10% discount on their ticket or table.

Award Categories

Public - VCSFE Collaborations

This award is in recognition of a public sector agency that works alongside VCFSE/not-for-profit organisations, including unregistered charities and community groups to improve the health and well-being of Black people.

Evidence of collaboration can include involvement of underrepresented groups in co-production, research, placement within VCSFE organisations; and volunteering arrangements to support.

Private - VCSFE Collaborations

This award is in recognition of a private sector business that works alongside not-for-profit organisations, including charities and social enterprises to improve the health and well-being of Black people.

Evidence of collaboration can include engagement, co-production; research, funding, volunteering arrangements, etc.

University - VCSFE partnerships

This award is given in recognition of university that works with local VCSFE (including not-for-profit organisations, unregistered charities, and social enterprises) sector organisations on initiatives or programmes to improve the health and well-being of Black people.

Evidence of collaboration can include involvement of underrepresented groups in curricula design, co-production, research, placement within VCSFE organisations; and volunteering arrangements to support the work of VCSFE organisations.

Anti-racist initiative

This award recognises the contributions made by organisations towards promoting anti-racism through organisational policies and practices.

The award will be granted to a public or private sector organisation that incorporates a strategic approach that demonstrates affirmative action towards combating racism within the workplace and working towards diversity in senior leadership.

Black Cultural and Arts Well-Being Initiative

This award will recognise the exemplary efforts by an organisation for their outstanding work in promoting and utilising Black culture and the arts as part of therapeutic intervention to improve health and well-being of Black people.

Examples of this can include work done in literature, music, dance, painting, poetry, storytelling, theatre, sculpture, spirituality, and rituals used to compliment treatment.

Community Leadership and Empowerment.

This award celebrates a member of the Black Caribbean and African community that has been an inspiring leader, empowered, built, and nurtured others to become resilient, cohesive, and make significant contribution to the overall wellbeing of the Black community.

Nominations are welcomed from community groups, schools, charities, business, and public sectors.

Outstanding Contribution to Race Equity and Inclusion

 This award recognises an organisation that have made significant strides in promoting racial equity, inclusivity, and diversity within their own organisation and in the broader community.

 The nomination would honour the work initiated and actions that lead towards removing barriers, improving working experiences and engagement levels; and creating opportunities for progression among individuals across protected characteristics.

Young People’s Organisation of the Year Award

This award recognises a young Black person (16 to 25 years) who has gained skills and overcome challenges to reach their goals to transform the lives of others and make a difference at community level.  

Volunteer of the Year

This award recognises a member of the Black Caribbean & African community who has utilised their lived experience/skills and selflessly served a cause to transform the lives of others and make a difference at community/national level.
