The Caribbean & African Health Network will be honouring individuals and organisations for their contributions to the health and wellbeing of the Black Caribbean and African Communities across the United Kingdom.  Nominations will be accepted for those who through personal or professional efforts have made a difference to Black Caribbean and African people.

  • Nominations open on Monday 18th July and close on 20th September 2025.
  • Each nominated individual or group must submit a 30 second clear background landscape video about them or their group by the 4th of October 2024. Further details will be sent once shortlisted nomination has been accepted.
  • Each shortlisted individual or group will be recognised in the nominated category on the night of the GALA 11th October 2025.
  • There will be nine categories and selection will be undertaken by an independent panel of judges using a set criterion.
  • Each shortlisted individual or group will receive a 10% discount on their ticket or table.

Award Categories

Public Sector – VCFSE Collaborations

Recognises partnerships between public sector bodies and Black-led VCFSE organisation(s) that have improved health and wellbeing in a disadvantaged Black community. This includes co-designed services, shared delivery models, or outreach to new audience.

Focus: Joint efforts that have improved health and wellbeing in Black community in a disadvantaged or deprived geographical area.
Examples: Co-designed services, shared delivery models, or outreach to new beneficiary groups.

Private Sector – VCFSE Collaborations

Recognises partnerships between private sector bodies and Black-led VCFSE organisation(s) that have improved health and wellbeing in a disadvantaged Black community. This includes co-designed services, shared delivery models, or outreach to new audience.

Focus: Joint efforts that have improved health and wellbeing in Black community in a disadvantaged or deprived geographical area.
Examples: Co-designed services, investment or sponsorship of initiatives, shared delivery models, or outreach to new beneficiary groups.

University – VCFSE Partnerships

Recognises: Meaningful collaborations between a university and Black-led VCFSE organisations that strengthen community health, inclusion, and social impact.

Focus: Initiatives that embed community voices in academic environments and foster mutual learning and benefit.

Examples: Co-created research with community groups, student placements in VCFSE organisations, or joint programmes addressing local health inequalities and wider determinants.

Anti-Racist Initiative

Honours an organisation that actively promotes anti-racism and inclusion through strategic policies and practices. This includes inclusive recruitment, anti-racism training, diversity in senior leadership, and workplace culture transformation.

Focus: Strategic and measurable actions to combat racism in the workplace or support measurable diversity in senior leadership.
Examples: Inclusive recruitment, anti-racism training, or policy reform

Health Equity Campaign of the Year

Recognises innovative campaign that has addressed health inequalities, drive health equity, and improved outcomes in underserved and inclusive of Black community. Open to individuals, teams, or cross-sector collaborations.
Focus: Completed initiatives that demonstrate measurable impact.
Eligibility: Open to individuals, teams, or cross-sector collaborations.

Examples: Community health outreach, maternal health equity projects, mental health awareness in faith settings, youth-led sexual health education, or digital health access for elders.

Culture, Arts, and Wellbeing

Celebrates individuals who use cultural expression to promote healing, identity, and wellbeing in Black community. This includes work in poetry, music, dance, storytelling, visual arts, spirituality, and more.

Recognises: Individual, initiative, or organisation using cultural expression to promote health and wellbeing.
Focus: Creative work that uplifts, heals, and preserves cultural identity.
Examples: Music, dance, storytelling, visual arts, or spiritual practices.

Community Leadership and Empowerment

Honours an individual who has mobilised and empowered their communities through grassroots leadership. Nominees may include charity leaders, faith leaders, educators, local business owners, or community organisers.

Recognises: Individuals who have mobilised and empowered their communities.
Focus: Grassroots leadership that fosters unity, resilience, and development.
Examples: Faith leaders, educators, local business owners, or community organisers.

Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

Recognises individuals or groups advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in their organisations or communities. This includes removing barriers, improving representation, and creating inclusive environments which include Black people.

Recognises: Individuals or groups advancing EDI in their organisations or communities.
Focus: Removing barriers, improving representation, and creating inclusive environments.
Examples: EDI networks, inclusive policy development, or mentorship programs.

Young People’s Organisation of the Year

Celebrates organisations that significantly impact the development and wellbeing of Black, minority and underserved young people through education, health, and community engagement.

Recognises: Organisations making a significant impact on youth development.
Focus: Empowering young people through education, health, and community engagement.
Examples: Youth-led initiatives, mentoring schemes, or creative youth programs.

Young Changemaker of the Year

Recognises an outstanding Caribbean or African young person (aged 16–25) who has made a meaningful contribution to health, wellbeing, or social change. This includes youth leadership, advocacy, peer support, or creative initiatives.

Focus: Youth leadership, advocacy, innovation, or peer support that has positively impacted others.
Examples: Mental health advocacy, community health projects, peer mentoring, creative wellbeing initiatives, or campaigning for equity.
